    Does a single truffles grow over the course of one season (ie weeks or months) or over the course of potentially several years? Most information references on time are related to the delay needed for mycelium to develope and begin to produce truffles, but not the truffle itself. I have yet to find a resource or person that can help me understand that! Help point me in the right direction if you have heard this discussed :)

    Why burn plastic? Why is an east wind bad?

    • @furtfurt
      @furtfurt Рік тому

      Since it's Oregon, likely east winds are dry as it's coming off the desert. Burning plastic over dry wood is better than burning wet wood which takes longer to burn (extending the chance of fire spreading). You try removing plastic from under a huge pile of wood. Its impossible. Better to burn tiny bit of plastic than an entire forest.

    • @Farmtractorrescue
      @Farmtractorrescue Рік тому

      Once the fire is going, plastic is gone and has has no effect on it. As far as wind, I can’t comment because I don’t live there.

    • @furtfurt
      @furtfurt Рік тому

      @@Farmtractorrescue the plastic is there *to help dry out the wood better*. Dry wood burns faster than wet. Once the plastic is there, it's covered in more wood, so very difficult to remove.

      Hi Josh, I actually have that farm that is shown and Charles got it slightly wrong. We don't use glyphosate when we spray. The phosphate salts that it produces is actually counterproductive to creating a fruiting orchard.

    I'm very surprised to hear clear cutting suggested by young forestry professionals in 2021. Do you really subscribe to the old fashioned belief that clear cutting is "science-proven"? Sure, trees that are replanted will grow back, but is that all we care about? Do we really want to convert our natural forests into monoculture grids of farmed trees? All the same species, all the same height? Can you really call yourself a forester, if you actively participate in the destruction of forests, and creation of tree farms? Farmer is the appropriate word. Let's not forget to take into account all of the negative consequences of clear cutting: Clear cutting destroys precious wildlife habitat, pollutes clean drinking water, warms the planet, endangers the health of communities, and threatens Oregon's natural heritage and beauty. Strict laws surrounding sustainable forest management and preservation are far past due. It is time we create laws to regulate our forests so that they are sustainably managed, and preserved rather than eradicated and converted to tree farms. I know just as much as the next guy, we need wood. Wood creates jobs, and homes. I'm not against logging, I am for sustainable logging. Clear cutting is not sustainable, period.
